Check out this cool clip of Josh Sanburn driving a Garia golf cart around the streets of New York City.
Luckily the streets aren’t packed as they generally are during the Dick Clark “Rocking New Year’s Eve Party” so the show’s host only has to compete with honking taxi drivers instead of inebriated college kids. The golf cart that he is showing off is truly a nice vehicle but with its hefty price tag it makes it an impractical choice for the rest of us. Don’t despair, you can get your golf cart looking as good as this one with just a few of the right golf cart parts and accessories.
Let’s assume that you already own an older standard EZGO PDS golf cart from 1998 with a decent set of batteries and a top, but with no added features. So your cart is pretty bland and pretty slow. Now the cart in the video would retail for $21,000. But I want to show you how, with a few simple modifications, you could add EZGO accessories to your cart to give this new one a run for its money at a fraction of the cost.
The plan: Turn a bland EZGO into a sweet ride!
The Budget: $5250.00
First, let’s start with what we would like to see in this new creation. Well, the host in the video was sporting a two-seater, but what if you are a little more popular than that? Let’s plan on adding a rear seat – but not a standard rear seat. Instead, we will add one that flips down to give us the added advantage of a mock utility bed – one of the most versatile EZGO accessories around. Now if we plan to drive around town there are some safety issues we need to be aware of. We will need to add seat belts for the front and rear, as well as an AS4 windshield and windshield wiper. A few other very important additions to allow us to venture into the streets would be a rear view mirror, speedometer, and a light package which includes turn signals and a much needed horn. With all of these add-ons we are at around $1,400, but we’re nowhere near done yet.
Since we are adding a lot of bolt-on EZGO accessories to our cart, such as a steel seat to hold two additional passengers, we will need to look at our cart’s motor. A standard golf cart motor just won’t do. So we will need to look at performance upgrades next. We will replace our old motor with a brand new D&D motor with an Alltrax controller to get our desired speed of 20 mph with enough torque to move our additional weight. When you upgrade your controller and motor you will also need to upgrade some other components as well, such as your battery cables. You will need to add some additional EZGO accessories such as a better solenoid, and diodes and resistors but these are very easy to assemble. With the additional performance upgrades we add another $1,250.00 to our running tally, bringing us to $2,650.00.
Now a golf cart is still a small vehicle so if you are going to bring it alongside cars maybe we should beef it up a bit. To start, we will add a 3” lift kit to the cart not only to give it an aggressive look, but also to make room for the 14” custom rims and tires. After that we will add a brush guard, some rocker panels, and fender flares to complete our bad ass look. With these additional EZGO accessories, the new total comes to a little over $4,000.00
To tackle the interior, the first thing we will need to upgrade is the seats. Standard seats are nice, but Suite Seats are SWEET! If we change the front seat we should change the rear as well. But Suite Seats are a luxury, so for the rear we will just go with matching colored pleated vinyl replacement skins. The interior color we should choose for this cart is burled or wood finish, but the choice is up to you if you like carbon fiber or titanium the prices would be the same. So we will make the interior something we can be proud of by adding a burled dash with a CD radio with I-pod jack and we will also put a custom burled steering wheel as well.
With all of our discussed EZGO accessories and upgrades, our cart will cost us just over $5,000.00 to modify and if you are handy with a wrench you can add all of these items on your own over the course of a weekend or two. If you take the challenge, send some pictures or a video our way. We’d love to share it with everyone!
